Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses

A systematic review is a literature review focused on a specific research question, with clear criteria for inclusion and exclusion of studies. The aim is to identify, evaluate, select and synthesize all evidence of high quality research relevant to question at hand. A systematic review that uses a statistical technique to synthesize the results is called a meta-analysis.

Understanding systematic reviews and their practical implementation is becoming mandatory for all professionals involved in health care. HTAnalyze offers courses for professionals from all areas and at all levels, both in open enrollment or for closed groups.

Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis - Introductory Course
The objective of this course is to train students in the field of systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials, including basics such as search strategy in the literature, data extraction, assessment of methodological quality, calculation of the summary effect, and different models of analysis (fixed effect and random effects). The course includes practical lessons and at the end the student should be able to perform the basic steps of a systematic review and all essential calculations for a meta-analysis.
Enrollment available in portuguese only. For information on English taught courses, please contact us.
Meta-analysis Workshop Using the R Software
R is a robust software for statistical analysis and graphics. It is a free and open source application, which enables its continuous improvement and sustainability. Among the options available to perform meta-analyses, is the one with more implemented features. In this 16-hour, 100% practical workshop, the student will learn to perform a full meta-analysis and to prepare appropriate graphics for publication.
Among the topics covered by the course are: conducting meta-analysis of compared measures (RR, OR, RD), conducting meta-analysis with adjusted data (HR, adjusted RR), conducting meta-analysis of continuous data (SMD, MD), data input in a meta-analysis of continuous data, conducting meta-analysis of proportion (prevalence, incidence), processing data in a meta-analysis of proportions (gross ratio, log, logit, arcsine transformations), effects of different variance estimators (DerSimoniam and Laird , REML), evaluation and publication bias adjustment (Egger test, Begg funnel plot, trim and fill), heterogeneity assessment, subgroup analysis, and graphical analysis (forest plot, funnel plot, Baujat plot, L’Abbé plot). Previous contact with the R software is not necessary, but previous experience with meta-analysis is required.

Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis - Advanced Course: Meta-Regression
The goal of this course is to enable students to incorporate meta-regression analyses into their systematic reviews. The practical activities of the course will use the R Software, but previous contact with the application is not necessary.
Enrollment available in portuguese only. For information on English taught courses, please contact us.
Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis - Advanced Course: Observational Studies
This course focuses on systematic reviews and meta-analyses of non-compared studies, and of prevalence and incidence estimates. It covers a broad range of topics, from necessary adaptation of the search strategy to data analysis.
Enrollment available in portuguese only. For information on English taught courses, please contact us
Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis - Advanced Course: Indirect Comparisons
This course focuses on clinical trials indirect comparison techniques (network meta-analysis). Practical activities of the course will use the R Software, but previous contact with the application is not necessary.
Enrollment available in portuguese only. For information on English taught courses, please contact us.
Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis - Advanced Course: Diagnostic Test Accuracy
This course offers training on critical appraisal of published studies and also on the conducting of systematic reviews that focus on Diagnostic Test Accuracy.
